Fancy Box - April 2013

I recently jumped on the subscription box bandwagon earlier this year and now I've developed quite a collection! One of the companies I subscribe from is Fancy, which offers a total of eight subscription boxes: Verbal, P!nk, Ashton Kutcher, Tyler Florence, Fancy Food, Coco Rocha, Jennifer Love Hewitt & the original Fancy box.

I subscribe to five of these: Ashton Kutcher, Coco Rocha, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Tyler Florence & the original Fancy box subscription. This is my review of the original Fancy box subscription.

The Box: Fancy Box

The Cost: $46.95 ($39 plus $7.95 for shipping)

The Products: Each box promises $80+ worth of products from Fancy

Get 10% off your first box or any order with code FOLLOWUP10

Note: Fancy does not allow returns on boxes, but they now allow returns within 30 days for one item per box in exchange for either a $15 gift card or a random item.

Thumb Lite Stick on LED -$15 for two or $7.99 each (Listed as $3.99/each on Thumb-Lite)

This is a great concept. I dropped my phone in the bushes when I was helping my friends move a couple weekends ago and this was a huge help in finding it in the dark.

Quirky 4 Port Contort Flexible USB Hub -$25

I really liked this product as well. I always have a habit of bumping into my laptop in just the right way that it disconnects or snaps off whatever I plugged in. This way it can hang off the edge of my lap and I don't have to worry about accidentally damaging my gadgets or files.

Bento Box in Green -$23 on sale for $19

This was my favorite item in the box! I've been looking into buying a bento box for work and this was perfect. It came in extra handy during an outdoor school field trip when it rained HARD. My food was kept nice and dry. I also like that this style accommodates a variety of lunches (salads, sandwiches, pasta dishes, sushi, etc.) with a little mini container for sauces/dressings, so your meal doesn't get soggy.

Mercury Innovations Active Armband in Green -$25

Another product I can't use! Maybe Fancy is telling me I need to get a new phone....I do. :/
Works with iPhone 4, 4S, 5 and iPod Touch 5th generation.

Nail Lacquer in Fancy Black & Fancy Red - $21

I'm not really a nail polish person, but these are big 3 free and came with a cuticle stick. I haven't used either of these polishes, so if you're interested in either of these colors comment below!

Overall I really enjoyed this box and it had a value of approx. $97.99!

Ashton Kutcher Fancy Box - April 2013

I recently jumped on the subscription box bandwagon earlier this year and now I've developed quite a collection! One of the companies I subscribe from is Fancy, which offers a total of eight subscription boxes: Verbal, P!nk, Ashton Kutcher, Tyler Florence, Fancy Food, Coco Rocha, Jennifer Love Hewitt & the original Fancy box.

Stop Wars T-Shirt -$24

I was psyched to see that I got this shirt in my Fancy box. If I hadn't I probably would have bought it anyway! It caters to the star wars geek in me. I've already decided that if I had fraternal twins, their names would be Luke & Leia. :) It's hard to tell from the lighting in the photo, but the shirt is actually a really pretty bold blue.

Knuckle Duster Mug -$16

This mug wasn't for me, but I was able to gift it to my little brother who loves it. It's a decent size for coffee too. It's currently on sale for $12 at Fab if anyone is interested in this mug.

Undercover Tablet Sleeve -$30

I love this concept and it makes me wish I had an iPad, but alas I don't. :( I keep this on my desk as a source of motivation to get one.

Robot Tea Infuser -$9

This is probably my favorite item in the box! This little robot looks adorable in my glass mug when I drink my tea at night.

Overall this is my favorite Ashton Kutcher Fancy box yet! The value is just under $80 at $79, but it's still a great deal considering I only paid $46.95.

Coco Rocha Fancy Box - March 2013

I recently jumped on the subscription box bandwagon earlier this year and now I've developed quite a collection! One of the companies I subscribe from is Fancy, which offers a total of eight subscription boxes: Verbal, P!nk, Ashton Kutcher, Tyler Florence, Fancy Food, Coco Rocha, Jennifer Love Hewitt & the original Fancy box.

I subscribe to five of these: Ashton Kutcher, Coco Rocha, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Tyler Florence & the original Fancy box subscription. This is my review of the first Coco Rocha Fancy box.

The Cost: $46.95 ($39 plus $7.95 for shipping)

The Products: Each box promises $80+ worth of products curated by Coco Rocha for Fancy

Sample of L'Occitane Hand Cream .3oz - Approx value $4 (Listed as $12 for 1 oz on L'Occitane)

This sample size is much smaller than the usual travel size available at L'Occitane stores. Fancy had it listed on their site for $15 for a .3 oz! I don't think that's right since L'Occitane sells 1 oz packages for $12. I already have this, but I put it in my bag as a spare. If you haven't tried the brand, I'd recommend it! I love their peony scents from their Pivoine Flora line.

Rings & Tings Spiked Bracelet - $15 (Listed as 6.50 euros or approx $8.71 on Rings & Tings)

This bracelet just wasn't my style, so I ended up swapping this and a couple more items on the Box Love Exchange B/S/T Facebook group for the Gorjana Striped Scarf from June's POPSUGAR box! I've been able to exchange for a lot items thanks to this group!

China Glaze in Catwalk - $15 for two bottles on Fancy ($7.5/each)

China Glaze in Sun Worshipper -$9 for two bottles on Fancy ($4.5/each)

The prices for these nail polishes vary depending on the retailer, but these are valued at $7.50 or less apiece. I received a hot pink China Glaze polish as a gift once and I loved it, but then I must not have screwed the lid back on properly because it leaked all over my bag and dried out. I was happy to try the brand out again, especially knowing that they are big 3 free. I tried the sun worshipper color once and unfortunately it's just not for me. It came out looking more orangey - yellow than it did in the bottle. I haven't tried concrete catwalk color yet, but I may just end up giving both away. I'm currently in Julep phase right now anyway. The gray polish definitely seems more my style though!

If anyone is interested in either of these polishes, comment below!

Opaque Over the Knee Socks by American Apparel -$13

While I don't think I could ever wear these socks as modeled on Fancy, they are great for wearing under my trouser pants for work. These should be a staple in every woman's wardrobe.

The Little Dictionary of Fashion by Christian Dior -$15 (Listed as $19.95 on the back cover)

This is a great coffee table book to keep out when you are entertaining guests. I've only browsed through it, but I think I'm going to put it on my nightstand and read one letter each night before bed. Definitely interesting and different!

Fred Cool Jewels Ice Tray - $15 (Price varies depending on retailer)

I love all the different types of ice cube trays Fancy offers on their site. I probably wouldn't have ordered this particular one, but I'm glad I got it in my Fancy box either way. It will definitely go to use and it'll look great in drinks when entertaining.

Overall I had mix feelings on this box. While I liked most of the items, I found the value to be a little on the low side at $72.66 and it lacked a wow factor for me. Either way I still received more than I paid for and since this was only the first box, I decided to keep subscribing!

Note: With this box, Fancy started including information cards explaining why each item was chosen. I unfortunately didn't keep any of these cards, but will make a point to include them with future posts.

Pilot & Captain London Shirt -$32

I love this t-shirt even though I received a similar one in the Ashton Kutcher box this month. I've actually love this one more because I not only adore the blue color, but I've actually been to London, so it bears a sentimental value as well. Some other subscribers received the JFK/New York version of this shirt, which I love too. I may just have to purchase one for myself.

Broom Groomer Mini-Crumb Casket by Quirky -$15 (Listed as $5 on Quirky)

So as you can see from my photo, I still have yet to even use this! I love quirky products, but I felt meh about this one. I actually wish I had this in full size instead, so I could remove those balls of dust and cat hair that inevitably end up on the bottom of my broom. I understand the concept, but if you have mini crumb messes, isn't it just easier to use your hands? Maybe once I use it, it'll make sense to me.

Citrus Zinger Water Bottle -$16 (Listed as $16.99 on Zing Anything)

This is another product I felt meh about. I love the concept of infusing fruit in your water, but I'm just more of a glass bottle drinker instead of plastic, reusable or otherwise. Plus, wouldn't the citrus degrade the plastic over time? I used it once, but I may actually end up re-gifting this to my mother. I know she'll love this.

At first I thought it was pink until I opened the box and saw it was black!
Clocky Rolling Runaway Alarm Clock -$40 (Listed as $45 on Nanda)

As cute as this idea is, this was actually my least favorite item in the box. I'm deaf, so this item is essentially useless to me. I can only wake up with an alarm that shakes my bed in the morning. When I signed up for this subscription I didn't even consider the fact that I may receive items like this, so this is a fault of mine rather than Fancy's. I reached out to their customer service to see about returning or exchanging for a product from boxes other subscribers had received and they quickly apologized and sent me a $25 gift card (Fancy didn't allow returns/exchanges until recently). If you ever have any issues contact Shana at cs@fancy.com. She may take a couple of days to respond, but she's always been of great help. I've never had any issues with their customer service.

I still have this alarm clock, so if anyone is interested, post in the comments below and I'll contact you!

Gift Card to Shoptiques -$10

I don't really consider gift cards to be of any value, especially when you have to spend money in order to use it. Either way I did use this gift card to buy a bracelet, which I loved until it came apart after wearing it maybe three times. :(

My now broken bracelet. I thought it would be an easy fix, but it isn't. :(
Overall this box had a value of about $93, which is great! I actually had a coupon code for $25 off this box, so I only paid $21.95. Since I only really used the shirt in this box, I'm grateful I didn't pay full price. I should be able to sell or gift the other items though, so it's still a deal!

Winestein - $20

I love this! In fact, I'm using it now for a glass of wine from Door County's Harbor Ridge Winery. :) It isn't dishwasher safe, but that isn't an issue for me. I love Fred products. They are so fun.

The Official C.I.A. Manual of Trickery and Deception (Paperback) -$17 (Listed as $14.99 on the back cover)

Here is the information from the back cover:
"Magic or spycraft? In 1953, against the backdrop of the Cold War, the CIA initiated a top-secret program, code-named MKULTRA, to counter Soviet mind-control and interrogation techniques. Realizing that clandestine officers might need to covertly deploy newly developed pills, potions, and powders against the adversary, the CIA hired America’s most famous magician, John Mulholland, to write two manuals on sleight of hand and undercover communication techniques.
In 1973, virtually all documents related to MKULTRA were destroyed. Mulholland’s manuals were thought to be among them—until a single surviving copy of each, complete with illustrations, was recently discovered in the agency’s archives.
The manuals reprinted in this work represent the only known complete copy of Mulholland’s instructions for CIA officers on the magician’s art of deception and secret communications."
I actually haven't gotten the chance to read this yet, but it looks interesting and is next on my reading list. I'm currently finishing up the Girl With a Dragon Tattoo trilogy. Can't wait for the next movie!

Pilot and Captain Tokyo Shirt -$32

This shirt is so soft, I love it.  It's not as soft as it once was after multiple washes, but it's still very comfy. I probably wouldn't have picked this shirt out for myself as I don't usually wear brown, but I'm happy with it. I love the design concept. When I wear it, I have a sudden urge to plan a trip to Tokyo and wear this on the plane.

Image of Big Ass Brick of Soap - Black Bar 3-Pack

Duke Cannon Supply Co. "Big Ass Brick of Soap" -$8/bar (Listed as $17.50 for a 3 pack on Duke Cannon, so $5.83/bar)

I received two of these bars and gave both of them to my little brother who is in college. He loves the scent, which is very masculine and he still has a bar left! That gives you an idea of how big those bars were. They were the biggest bars of soap I had ever seen in my life. I love that Ashton included these even if I couldn't use them, since part of the proceeds went to veterans. My father is a veteran, so this hit home!

Overall this box had a value of $78.65 which is just under the promised $80. I find that sometimes Fancy's prices are elevated on their site, so I use the retail site values instead when calculating. Even so, I still think this box is a great value and I liked this one better than his first!

Ashton Kutcher Fancy Box - February 2013

Glove.ly Touch Screen Gloves -$25 (Listed $22.50 on glove.ly)

I loved these gloves and used them last winter. They have a magnet at the base of each glove, so you can snap them together when you're not wearing them. I seem to have a bad habit of ending up with one glove instead of a pair, so I wish all gloves were made with magnets. The only downside of these gloves is that they aren't warm enough to brave the cold Wisconsin winter, but they will be great for fall here. This version is currently sold out, but they should be coming out with their fall line fairly soon!

Internet University Sweatshirt -$55 (Listed $44 on Etsy)

I wore this sweatshirt quite often since it was so comfy. Can't wait for fall, so I can wear it again. Would I have paid $44 for it? Probably not, but I'm certainly glad I got this in my Fancy box! It also held up well with multiple washes. For those who are wondering, Fancy sends you an email requesting your shirt size so they can tailor each box to suit your needs!

Just Mobile Alu Pen -$25

This was a product that I had no idea what to do with at first, since I don't own an iPhone or iPad, but luckily I was able to gift this to my mother recently. Despite the fact that Fancy asks you to specify what type of mobile devices you own when you sign up for a subscription, I still manage to receive products I am unable to use occasionally. I'm not sure why they bother asking if they aren't going to take the information into consideration when curating boxes, but I'm not going to complain too much! These items make good gifts!

FYI: If you're interested in grabbing one of these for yourself, they are currently on sale on Amazon.com at varying prices!

Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish Wall Decal -  reg $37.17, sale $26.02 on hu2design (No Price on Fancy)

This product is still in my closet laying untouched, since I plan on moving in the near future. It's not something I would have bought for myself, but I'll use it. I'm just not sure about where to put it. In the kitchen maybe?  I have a feeling Ashton's latest role as Steve Jobs had a lot to do with why he chose this item to be included in the box.

Overall this box had a value of about $117.52 and that's when calculating using sale prices! Seeing how this box was only $46.95, I think it's a great value.

Coco Rocha Fancy Box - July 2013

I recently jumped on the subscription box bandwagon earlier this year and now I've developed quite a collection! One of the companies I subscribe from is Fancy, which offers a total of eight subscription boxes: Verbal, P!nk, Ashton Kutcher, Tyler Florence, Fancy Food, Coco Rocha, Jennifer Love Hewitt & the original Fancy box.

I subscribe to five of these: Ashton Kutcher, Coco Rocha, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Tyler Florence & the original Fancy box subscription. This is my review of the Coco Rocha Fancy box subscription.

Team Coco Shirt - $25.99

Coco: On The Face last season Team Coco were the underdog but also the most loved team on the show. In fact we had about 70% of the public support, leaving Team Karolina and Team Naomi to fight for the leftover 30%. ;) Show your support for Margaux, Marlee, Stephanie, Britany and of course yours truly by sporting our #TeamCoco T-shirt!

I don't watch The Face, so this shirt isn't for me. I may like Coco, but that doesn't mean I want to wear her face on my shirt. This shirt was also WAY too small for me. The NBC website states that it's a Juniors T-shirt, which makes sense because I don't really see a grown woman wearing this shirt. I contacted customer service about returning this item, but they told me to keep it (they aren't selling the shirt on their website) and gave me a $10 credit since the shirt didn't fit.

Calorie Counting Wine Glass - $20

Coco: We've all read the studies about how a glass of wine fits snuggly into a healthy, balanced diet. Use this glass to regulate what you drink!

I haven't decided if this is something I'd use or not. If I do, I would most likely pour it to the "who cares" line. Counting calories just seems excessive to me. I'm a firm believer in everything in moderation, so as long as I work out and eat balanced meals overall I have no issue with enjoying life and eating/drinking what I want. I may not be model skinny like Coco, but I'm healthy and I see no reason to be anything other than my natural body type. Either way it's nice to have a general idea how much I'm drinking.

Senhoa Sovana Earrings - $85!

Coco: I was asked to create this capsule jewelry collection with and for the girls at Senhoa. These ladies, some as young as 4 years old, are rescued out of human trafficking in Cambodia and at 16 given a career as jewelry makers. I'm very proud of these girls and the work we are doing in that part of the world. I hope you feel beautiful as you wear my earrings, which were made by the very hands of the women they support.

I love the background behind these earrings! While I wouldn't wear these everyday, I'll definitely wear them during the holidays. These are very pretty earrings and they support a wonderful cause.

Hair Artist 2x Hair Chalk - $10 (Prices vary from $9 - $5 elsewhere)

Coco: Create a unique boho look with this easy to use hair chalk - the best part is that you can change it up whenever you want!

This hair chalk isn't necessarily my style, but I may be willing to give it a try now that I have it. Fancy's website seems to list their price the highest at $10. I wasn't able to find a definitive price, but the range is between $9 and $5.

Overall this box had an incredible value of $135.99. While it wasn't my favorite box, I was happy with the earrings which valued more than the price of the box alone, so this was still a win for me!
