POPSUGAR Must Have - October 2013

POPSUGAR Must Have is a lifestyles subscription box and probably one of my favorites! This is my review of the October box.

The Box: POPSUGAR Must Have

The Cost: Popsugar has announced that the price will be increasing on Nov. 4th to $39.95/month instead of $35/month. You can save now by purchasing or upgrading to a 3, 6, or 12 month subscription at current pricing.

The Products: “Must have” lifestyle items for women selected by Popsugar editors. Categories may include home, beauty, fitness and food.

Coupon: Use code REFER5 to save $5 off your first box or SQUAT10 for $10 off a three month subscription or more

First Look

Pink is a very special color to us here at POPSUGAR Must Have. Not only is it our signature hue, but more importantly, it is the color of Breast Cancer Awareness Month every October. This month, we are donating $1 for every box to breast caner research and have also teamed up with a number of brands and products that support multiple breast cancer charities. Of course, it's also time to get in that Halloween spirit and think about getting reqcquainted with the kitchen, since the holidays are around the corner. We hope you love this box.

 Must Have Food:

The Can't Cook Book: Recipes for the Absolutely Terrified by Jessica Seinfield - $27.99

Popsugar: Jessica Seinfield's brand-new-cook-book will help you tackle delicious and simple recipes at home. If you haven't stepped foot in a kitchen in years or are just looking for fresh takes on your nightly dinners, this cookbook is for you. The gorgeous photos and funny, heartwarming anecdotes about Jessica and her family throughout will help guide you through your next culinary adventure. Your skills will be honed just in time for the holidays!

This book was just recently released, so I'm happy to have it so soon! I'm not a cook at all, but my boyfriend is a chef. I've been wanting to learn so I can at least lend a helping hand and share his passion with him. :)

Halibut Recipe!

Must Have Beauty:

The Wet Brush - $14

Popsugar: We've all struggled to get a brush through our hair after a shower, and now we have the solution for you: The Wet Brush. Our beauty editors showed us this secret weapon, and we immediately knew we had to get it in POPSUGAR Must Have. The magic of The Wet Brush is in the specially formulated bristles that eliminate all tugging, tearing, pulling, and ripping. Ever better, our friends at The Wet Brush are making a donation toward the fight against breast cancer for every brush included in this month's box.

What are the odds of me getting two de-tangling brushes in subscription boxes this month? I like that 25% of proceeds from this brush go towards the fight against breast cancer. It's fitting for an October box!

Must Have Beauty:

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Black Eyeliner - $4.50

Popsugar: Define your eyes with this easy-to-apply liquid eyeliner. Use the very precise brush to get the thinnest line possible, or go for something a little more dramatic. We've paired it with this Smokey Shadow Palette for you to try out a sexy look this season. The shades all work alone, or they can be used together to create the perfect smokey eye.

I already have black eyeliner thanks to subscription boxes, but I was able to trade this for brown, which I don't have! :)

NYX Cosmetics Smokey Shadow Palette - $7

I like all the colors, but I already have similar sets. I haven't decided if I'm going to hold onto this for myself or swap/sell. A lot of subscribers complained about receiving this lower end brand, but I can't get NYX where I live, so I didn't mind! We only have a Target, Walmart and Walgreens. That's it.

Must Have Fashion:

Jane Tran Bobby Pins - $12

Popsugar: Pull back your tresses with style thanks to these Jane Tran bobby pins. The design is sweet, modern, and colorful but still subtle. Plus, the shape of the pins means they will hold your hair back all day with ease. Use them to create a simple side-swept look or as part of a more elaborate updo.

I've been growing out my bangs, so it's always nice to have some pretty bobby pins as opposed to the standard, cheap ones. I like that these are big enough to collect all my loose strands as well.

Must Have Beauty:

Julep Top Coat and Nail Color in Char - $32 ($25.60 if your a Maven)

Popsugar: We teamed up with Julep to bring you an exclusive duo of nail polishes - one of the season's best colors and a top coat. Beyond giving us beautiful and festive manicures, the special Julep formula will help keep your nails healthy. The top coat will dry shiny and smudge-free in just five minutes. And just like that, you're on your way with a new nail look.

I already subscribe to Julep, but luckily I didn't have this color or top coat! I was actually considering purchasing both, so I'm glad I didn't! I do wish they would have actually included exclusive colors though since I know some subscribers were not as lucky to receive colors they didn't already own. If you're new to Julep, use the code FREEBOX to get your first box free! Just pay shipping!

Must Have Fashion:

Gorjana Bali Bead Bracelet - $45

Popsugar: This delicate, playful bracelet is also ready to do some good. When someone purchases this bracelet - made in our signature pink color - on the Gorjana retail site, 100 percent of the proceeds of the piece go to the charity Breast Cancer Connections. Wear your pink with pride this October.

When I first saw spoilers for this bracelet, I wasn't sure if I was going to like the hot pink, but it's actually very delicate and pretty in person. I love the Gorjana brand, so I'm happy to add this to my collection. Some subscribers have commented that this bracelet isn't worth the $45 retail value and the bracelet could be easily made themselves, but I'd like to point out that 100% of that $45 goes toward a breast cancer charity, so I'd be more than willing to spend that $45. Everyone on my mother's side of the family has suffered from breast cancer and I myself have even had a biopsy on a lump already and I'm only 23. I try to support the cause as much as I can and I love when companies show their support as well. I will be wearing this bracelet with pride!

The Bracelet!

Must Have Food:

The Crispery Halloween Sprinkled Crispycake - $3.95

Popsugar: Handmade, soft, and perfectly gooey, these gourmet crispy cakes from The Crispery will put a smile on the face of your inner child. Even if you're too old (is there even such a thing?) to be trick-or-treating, you can enjoy this nostalgic Halloween treat. They're simply delicious and festive too.

I apologize for the half-eaten treat! After taking pictures, I realized I never took one of the crispycake and I had taken a few bites already if you couldn't tell! ;) This rice crispie treat was HUGE! That being said, I am probably one of the few who didn't think this tasted all that great. I make homemade rice crispie treats all the time, so maybe I just know how I prefer them. It lacked that buttery taste if you know what I mean.

Special Extra:

Stitch Fix Gift Card - $20

Popsugar: Try out this fun new personal styling service to get handpicked fashion goodies delivered right to your door. Enjoy $20 off your purchase plus a waived styling fee - Stitch Fix away!

I've always wanted to try Stitch Fix, but I was afraid to lose the $20 if I didn't like anything they sent me. They send you some clothes in the mail based on your profile for a $20 styling fee. When you receive the package, you have three days to decide which items to return and which to keep. Whichever items you keep, you pay for minus the $20 you already paid. If you end up returning everything though, you basically wasted $20...I was grateful to see this card, because not only does it waive that styling fee, it also gives you $20 in credit towards an item you purchase. Now I can test this subscription out without worrying about flushing money down the drain!

Overall this box has a value of $140.04 and that's not even including the gift card! I will use everything in this box, so this was a win for me!

Coco Rocha Fancy Box - September 2013

I recently jumped on the subscription box bandwagon earlier this year and now I've developed quite a collection! One of the companies I subscribe to is Fancy, which offers a total of eight subscription boxes: Verbal, P!nk, Ashton Kutcher, Tyler Florence, Fancy Food, Coco Rocha, Jennifer Love Hewitt & the original Fancy box.

I subscribe to five of these: Ashton Kutcher, Coco Rocha, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Tyler Florence & the original Fancy box subscription. This is my review of the Coco Rocha Fancy box subscription.

The Box: Coco Rocha Fancy Box

The Cost: $46.95 ($39 plus $7.95 for shipping)

The Products: Each box promises $80+ worth of products curated by Coco Rocha for Fancy

Coupon: Get 10% off your first box or any order with code FOLLOWUP10

Note: Fancy does not allow returns on boxes, but they now allow returns within 30 days for one item per box in exchange for either a $15 gift card or a random item.

Information Cards

This box came with an extra information card with a note from Coco! I love how involved she is with the curation of this box and with her fans!

Coco: Happy Fall y'all!! I hope you enjoy this month's box as much as I do. Hit me up on Twitter and Instagram @CocoRocha and use #FancyBox to tell me about your favorite products from this month. Post a creative photo with this link I'll be retweeting my favorites. Thanks again for subscribing! You guys are the best. xoxo Coco

Stylist Magazine - $15

Coco: Check out the most recent issue of Stylist Magazine, featuring yours truly as a femme fatale. This was my FIRST ever photo-shoot following my big haircut. What do you think? Let me know @CocoRocha @Fancy #FancyBox.

I've never Stylist Magazine, so I will definitely thumb through it. I've been reading all my magazines through Next Magazine lately, but Stylist Magazine isn't available on there!

Chalkboard Manicure by Ciate - $25

Coco: Take it back to the schoolyard with this chalkboard manicure set from Ciate. Paint your base-coat using the chalkboard paint pot and decorate your nails with the colored chalk pens. This is the perfect way to make a statement and add personal flare to your manicure!

This is the THIRD Ciate manicure set I've received in my fancy boxes! Thankfully they've all been different kinds, but none that I will use. Just like the other two sets I received, I was able to trade this in the box love exchange Facebook group, so it wasn't a complete waste!

Tangle Teezer Salon Elite - $15

Coco: The tangle teezer is so much more than your average hairbrush. It is compact, cute, and has amazing de-tangling powers for both wet and dry hair. Keep it in your bag and pull it out to reboot and perfect your hairstyle in seconds!

I never heard of this brush before. It's supposed to be great for de-tangling. I usually only brush my hair in the shower when I still have conditioner in, but sometimes even then I have really bad tangles that I struggle to get out. I like the idea, but this brush definitely takes some getting used to though!

Pomegranate Gift Set - $35

Coco: Who knew that pomegranate was a super-food for your skin, too? All of the products in this set are made using pomegranate essential oil, which has softening and firming effects on skin and leaves you smelling delicious.

This is a nice looking set, but I wouldn't have been upset if I received something else either. I just have to decide if I want to gift it or keep it for myself. I could always use soap, but I have a ton of lotion, so I may gift the lotion. The candle is in an adorable little tin, but boy was it impossible to open! I even asked my dad to help me out and he struggled. We almost had to pry it open. Luckily we didn't have to in the end, but he told me to keep it open from now on!

Overall this box had a value of $95. This wasn't my favorite box, but it wasn't my least favorite either. Since Coco is in the fashion industry I feel like she could really make these boxes amazing with purses, jewelry, makeup, body care, etc. Even fashion forward home decorative pieces!

Tyler Florence Fancy Box - September 2013

I recently jumped on the subscription box bandwagon earlier this year and now I've developed quite a collection! One of the companies I subscribe to is Fancy, which offers a total of eight subscription boxes: Verbal, P!nk, Ashton Kutcher, Tyler Florence, Fancy Food, Coco Rocha, Jennifer Love Hewitt & the original Fancy box.

I subscribe to five of these: Ashton Kutcher, Coco Rocha, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Tyler Florence & the original Fancy box subscription. This is my review of my first box from the Tyler Florence Fancy box subscription.

The Box: Tyler Florence Fancy Box

The Cost: $46.95 ($39 plus $7.95 for shipping)

The Products: Each box promises $80+ worth of products curated by Tyler Florence for Fancy

Coupon: Get 10% off your first box or any order with code FOLLOWUP10
Note: Fancy does not allow returns on boxes, but they now allow returns within 30 days for one item per box in exchange for either a $15 gift card or a random item.

Information Cards

After getting August's box so late, I felt like September's was early! I don't even think a week went by! Not complaining though. I love getting a bunch of boxes at once. It's like I'm going into withdrawl when I don't have any! ;)

Cuisipro Stainless Steel Tongs - $11

Tyler: Great tongs are a necessity in every kitchen! These versatile stainless steel tongs can be used for cooking, serving, or both in one go.

I actually don't have any tongs, so these are a welcome addition to my kitchen!

Easy Press Garlic Press - $20

Tyler: Garlic is an essential ingredient in most dinner recipes, and it can be a real pain to deal with. The Easy-Press from Joseph, Joseph makes the task of crushing garlic worlds easier, less messy, and guaranteees minimal contact with the strong-smelling ingredient.

I actually don't have a garlic press either, so this is another win for me! My boyfriend uses garlic in almost every single recipe.

All Out Of Pad - $6

Tyler: Trips to the grocery store can be surprisingly overwhelming if you don't know what you're looking for. Fill out one of these all-out-of pads before you leave your kitchen to make your trip that much easier and more efficient - and to guarantee that you won't forget to buy the milk & eggs.

I have something similar to this from Target, but I love this one! The list is much longer, making sure I really don't forget anything. I will definitely be using these!

Core Bamboo Classic Cheese Set - $40

Tyler: This bamboo classic cheese set is ideal for preparing and serving fine cheeses for all occasions. Whether you're in a formal setting or having a casual night in with wine and cheese, this set gives you to the tools - featured in a hidden tool tray - to do it right.

Being from Wisconsin, I love cheese. :) This will be perfect for entertaining!

Bacon Sea Salt by Sea to Sky - $5

Tyler: Who doesn't love bacon? This signature bacon salt from Sea to Sky makes for a great, subtle seasoning to complement a variety of dishes. Add a punch of this to eggs, popcorn, and even dark chocolate for a unique twist on that familiar bacon flavor.

My boyfriend and I love bacon, so we'll be getting so use out of this. I sampled it the other day on my pasta, but I didn't really think it tasted like bacon? I'm sure the flavors will come out when my boyfriend uses it though. His cooking skills are milestones above mine!

Overall this box had a value of $82 and I'll use everything in it! Another win from Fancy!

Glossybox - September 2013

The Box: GlossyBox

The Cost: $21/month (you can save more by signing up for a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription)

The Products: Deluxe and full-size beauty products

Coupon: Use coupon code BODY to get a free full-sized BODYOGRAPHY Every Finish Powder ($30 Value) with your first box AND get $2.75 cash back through Ebates

First Look

Glossybox: Fall is our favorite season of the year. While the leaves turn from green to red and gold, the knee-high boots and cashmere sweaters come out of storage and start roaming the streets. Everywhere we turn, we glimpse the tail end of a tailored trench or the knot of a scarf. With New York Fashion Week just behind us, we are constantly inspired to look our very best.

Information Card

On the beauty front, this month's box contains all you need to update your look - from smokey eyes, heady scents and larger-than-life lashes to the thickest and fullest hair you can imagine. With them, you'll be able to start off the new season with your most fashionable self.

BCBGMAXAZRIA Bon Genre Eau De Parfum .33 oz (Travel Size) - $10.68

Glossybox: Seductive, mysterious, and intriguing, BCBGMAXAZRIA Bon Genre is a statement-making fragrance inspired by the effortlessly cool sensibility of the urban rocker women.

I was a little iffy about getting a fragrance, since I'm fairly picky about scents, so I am pleasantly surprised I can use this. It isn't my favorite perfume, but I'll store it in my travel bag.

Be a Bombshell Eyeliner Pen In Onyx - $14

Master your cat-eye look with a flick of this easy-to-use eyeliner pen. The marker-like tip is easy to use and goes on smoothly for precise definition while the long-lasting, water resistant formula ensures your makeup stays fresh throughout the day.

I already have black liquid eyeliner, but I'll hold onto this one for future use!

Emite Makeup Eyelash Curler - $30.50

Glossybox: Accentuate your eyes this fall with impeccably curled lashes! This eyelash curler has a special curved design that angles to suit all eye shapes and curls without disturbing the makeup underneath. Your eye lashes will remain in perfect shape all day.

I already have an eyelash curler from Revlon that I never use, but I thought maybe I'd notice a difference with the $30 version? I have this one lash that drops lower than my lash-line on my right eye. It drives me crazy. I'm hoping this will help keep it in place all day with a coat of mascara. I wouldn't have paid $30 for this, but I'm glad I got it in my Glossybox!

Nioxin Diamax Treatment - $50

Glossybox: To acheive a fuller looking head of hair this fall, look no further than Nioxin Diamax. This treatment increases the thickness of the hair shaft and strengthens hair against breakage, which makes hair fuller and more manageable.

I already have a thicker hair type, but I could always use a product that protects against breakage and with my wavy hair, the fuller the hair, the better. I've used this a few times already and I've noticed a difference. I will definitely continue using this!

Oceane Makeup Remover Pen - $5.30

Glossybox: The tip of this pen contains an odorless liquid makeup remover that does not dry out the skin. It is perfect for removing excess makeup during application (for example, while perfecting a cat-eye) or touch ups during the day.

I couldn't find a website to purchase this online, which is too bad because I'd probably purchase more! I love the idea of this makeup remover pen. I normally use Almay makeup remover tips, but sometimes they can get messy and family members tend to steal them thinking they are normal q-tips! This is a much better alternative.

Overall this box had an amazing value of $110.48. Almost all the products were full-size too!

Julep Maven - October 2013

Julep Maven is a nail polish and beauty subscription box. Every month they have 5 different boxes you can choose from or you can upgrade to get the entire collection. These boxes are Classic with a Twist, Bombshell, Boho Glam, Modern Beauty and It Girl. You are able to view the products each month on the 20th and have until the 24th to make your selection or skip if you don't like any of the boxes. This month's theme was The Rebel Set - a collection to lighten up your dark side. Since I wanted the mask, I decided to go Modern Beauty and three add-on polishes to get the best deal.

The box: Julep Maven

The Cost: $19.99/month with free shipping or $54.99 to upgrade to the entire collection

The Products: Nail and beauty products. Modern Beauty contains only beauty products, It Girl contains only polish, the rest contain both.

Coupon: Get your first box free with code FREEBOX (You only have to pay shipping!)

Reasons to Subscribe:
  •  Julep Nail Color is “4-free” and does not contain formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, or DBP
  • Julep donates a portion of the proceeds to organizations that support women through their Powered by Girlfriends program
  • Being a Julep Maven means you get 20% off everything in their store and free shipping (no code necessary)
  • Mavens can earn jules which can be used on future boxes or add-ons! Mavens earn 300 jules for each full-price maven box they purchase (excludes mystery boxes), 200 on their birthday, 500 on their anniversary month and 750 if they upgrade to the entire collection. You even earn jules for becoming a maven and can redeem these jules on a monthly box (2,000), the entire collection (5,500) or even on add-ons (750 for nail colors, 1200+ for beauty/special products).
  • Each month you don't skip, you get to shop the secret store on the 1st of each month!
  • Each month you don't skip, you also get entered to win the mystery maven box of goodies, which is usually revealed with the collection on the 20th of each month.
AND....Starting this month Julep will give you a free polish of your choice when you take three monthly boxes in a row!

First Look

Now that Julep uses DHL a lot of Mavens have been complaining about the shipping delays. Boxes typically ship out after the 24th of each month. I received my box on October 1st, so I didn't have to wait long, but I guess some people are still waiting for their boxes?? Crazy!

Second Look!

Kajal Eye Glider & Sharpener - $17.60 ($22 if not a Maven)

I would never pay $17 for an eye pencil, but that's probably because I get more than I need from subscription boxes! I went with Modern Beauty this month mainly because I wanted the mask and because I am completely out of brown eyeliner. I also didn't have a pencil sharpener specifically for eyeliners. I had been using a regular pencil sharpener. Is this bad? I never sharpened pencils in it, just eyeliners...

Either way I actually really like this eyeliner! It's perfect for the smokey eyed look that I usually do. It blends easily and I didn't have any issues with it smudging or running as some reviewers have said. I also use a eye primer, so maybe that makes a difference?

Mask Noir - $25.60 ($32 if not a Maven)

This is another pricy item. I'm not sure if I would pay $25.60 for this, especially seeing how small it is in person! I was expecting it to be in a larger container, but they do list sizes on their site, so that tells me I didn't really look. ;) Either way I like this mask. It's a little difficult to put on in an easy layer though. It starts to peel as I'm applying it. Looking at their reviews online, others have had this issue too, so you have to work quickly! What I love about it is that it actually peels off. This is the first peel-off mask product I've tried that actually does what it advertises. My skin also felt soft afterwards, which is always a plus!

With each box, you also have the option of adding-on three more products for a low price. I usually only add on polishes to get the best deal as polishes are usually only $4.99. This month I went with three add-on polishes!

Anisa (Deep Burgundy Crème) - $11.20 ($14 if not a Maven)

This color is absolutely gorgeous. I think it may be my absolute favorite to date. The pictures don't even do this red justice.

Beatrix (Coal black with Multidimensional Glitter) - $11.20 ($14 if not a Maven)

This polish is actually a clear base with black multidimensional glitter and I love it. I wasn't planning on purchasing this until I saw a photo Julep posted with it used on top of Winona. Then I knew I just had to have it and I was right. :) This polish is so pretty and can be paired as a accent nail with any of my fall polishes.

Oh, and the name Beatrix reminds me of Harry Potter, which means I love it even more. :)

Winona (Buff Greige Crème) - $7.99 sale

I noticed a lot of reviewers didn't care for this color, but I thought it was lovely! Especially paired with Beatrix. This polish had more grey in it than Daria from last month, which was what I was hoping for!

My nails using Winona and Beatrix! :)

Bonus item: Candy Corn

I love candy corn and Halloween! :)

Overall this box had a value of $73.59. Seeing how I only paid $34.96, I'd say that's a deal! This may be my favorite month yet! :)

Fancy Box - September 2013

I recently jumped on the subscription box bandwagon earlier this year and now I've developed quite a collection! One of the companies I subscribe to is Fancy, which offers a total of eight subscription boxes: Verbal, P!nk, Ashton Kutcher, Tyler Florence, Fancy Food, Coco Rocha, Jennifer Love Hewitt & the original Fancy box.

I subscribe to five of these: Ashton Kutcher, Coco Rocha, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Tyler Florence & the original Fancy box subscription. This is my review of the original Fancy box subscription.

The Box: Fancy Box

The Cost: $46.95 ($39 plus $7.95 for shipping)

The Products: Each box promises $80+ worth of products from Fancy

Coupon: Get 10% off your first box or any order with code FOLLOWUP10

Note: Fancy does not allow returns on boxes, but they now allow returns within 30 days for one item per box in exchange for either a $15 gift card or a random item.

Information Cards!

Fancy Power Grid by Tego - $60

Fancy: Charging has never looked so good. This exclusive Fancy Power Grid from Tego Audio allows you to charge your phone or iPod on the go- and you can charge them at the same time. It's sleek travel essential, whether you're going on vacation to the beach or packing your bag for work. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod, Samsung Galaxy and so much more.

I was so excited about this item when I saw the spoilers! I already have something similar for myself from the Ashton Kutcher Fancy Box and love it. I knew that I was going to give this to my little brother for his birthday. He always wants to see what I got in my Fancy boxes when he visits. I swear he's just as curious as I am. ;) He turned 19 on the 28th of September and this box arrived just in time on the 27th! He told me he had a feeling he was getting something from my Fancy boxes, ha! He loves it though, especially the lego design of it.

Fancy Notebooks 2-pack - $30

Fancy: These notebooks are a great place to jot down your best ideas - or maybe a grocery list. They are compact so you can bring them along on all of your adventures, and their front covers are sure to keep people guessing.

I love these notebooks. The take over the world version also ended up as birthday gift for my brother. It fits his sense of humor perfectly, while the things I was supposed to do yesterday one suits me! I wouldn't have paid $30 for these notebooks, but they are fun.

During the day/no black light

Under black light

Corrupted Neon Nail Polish in Neon Pink - $25

Fancy: Paint your nails with the polish that never sleeps. This collection of Corrupted Neon Nail Polish from Ciate features zesty neon matte shades that are sure to make your fingertips stand out from the crowd.

Yet another Ciate nail polish! This one is supposed to glow under black light and the cover changes to demonstrate how the polish looks with and without black light. As I mentioned before, I'm not a huge fan of this trend or pink nail polish, but I was able to sell it in the box love exchange b/s/t group on Facebook, so I can't really complain!

Herb Savor Mini Pod - $13

Fancy: Who says summer has to come to an end? Hold onto those fresh summer ingredients with the Herb Savor Mini Pod. It prolongs the life of your herbs for up to 3 weeks so you can enjoy fresh, flavorful meals every time you cook.

I love this! My boyfriend loves using fresh herbs when he cooks, so I may gift this to him for either his birthday in November or Christmas. I may save it for Christmas seeing how he didn't give me anything for my birthday either. We usually just buy each other dinner and call it good. ;)

Overall this box had a value of $129! This was my favorite Fancy box I've received in awhile. I almost hope they send another power grid, so I can gift one to my boyfriend as well! :)
