The Box: Healthy Surprise Starter Box
The Cost: $33/month + $6.99 for shipping (You can also get the Healthy box for $66/month + $9.99 for shipping or Combo box for $99/month + free shipping)
I'm not exactly sure that anyone would spend $66 or $99 on a snack subscription, but the options are there!
The Products: 11 + full-size snacks (16+ and 27+ for the Healthy and Combo boxes respectively)
All their snacks are vegan and free of the following gluten, corn, soy, wheat, meat, dairy, honey, peanuts, shellfish, artificial sweeteners, artificial colors, artificial flavors, MSG and yeast extract, high fructose corn syrup, and partially hydrogenated oils.
I have a friend who is allergic to corn syrup, which is in almost everything! She always has trouble finding things she can eat, so I may recommend this to her.
Each box comes with an information brochure. This one was on GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms). My father worked in the field of genetics, so I've heard this discussion numerous times around the dinner table, but if you don't know much about it, this is a great source!
Power Wraps - $2.19
I was not a fan of these to say the least! I already didn't like the smell when I opened them, but I thought I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and take a bite. UGH! Couldn't even swallow it. I had to spit it out. I ended up throwing this out. Just not my thing.
Choco Nana - $2.56
I also wasn't a huge fan of these either. They have a weird taste, but I will probably eat them all. They are still sitting in my pantry opened and untouched though, so maybe I won't.
Home Free Mini Double Chocolate Chip Cookies - $1.39
These were okay. Not amazing, but not bad either. I think I would prefer making them on my own from scratch though.
That's it. Bar in apples + apricots - $1.67
When I saw this bar, I devoured it before even going through the rest of the box! I already sampled this bar from September's Popsugar, so I was happy to try another flavor. I really like these and may consider ordering some.
Go Go Squeez in Apple Mango - $0.99
I like the convenience of this pouch. This is perfect for someone who has kids! My boyfriend and I are long-distance right now, so I've been making 3 hour drives to see him on the weekends. Sometimes those drives can get boring and tiring, so I like to have a snack and drink on hand as a pick-me-up. This was perfect for that.
Hail Merry Pecans in Orange Rosemary - approx $2.63
This was another item I brought with me on those long trips. The flavor was good, but I couldn't eat the whole pack at once. The flavor changes after having one too many. I don't know how else to explain it. I would love to try these in more flavors.
Seasnax Grab and Go - $1.50
This was another product that just wasn't for me! I LOVE seafood and sushi, but the thought of eating seaweed by itself doesn't sound at all appetizing to me. I know Trader Joe's carries something similiar, but I just haven't been able to get into it. Again, I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it anyway. In the end I didn't really care for it. It had a fishy taste just as I expected and I wasn't a fan. If I want seaweed, I'll order sushi. If I want a snack, I'll grab something else.
The Daily Crave Veggie Chips - $1.09
I love Trader Joe's veggie chips, so I was happy to see these! The packaging is cute as well!
California Snax Parma - $ ?
I couldn't find a website or price for these, but they were okay. Not my favorite snack in the box, but I'll eat them.
Dang Toasted Coconut Chips - $2.82
These were really good! I wasn't expecting to like them so much since I'm not really big on coconut, but I really liked these.
Snapz Premium Grilled Zucchini Crunch - $1.27
These were also okay. I ate the whole bag, but I'd prefer to eat actual grilled zucchini, which we do a lot.
Overall this box had a value of approx $18.11 without the California snax, since I couldn't find a value. Seeing how this box is $33/month, I don't think I will be subscribing. I did enjoy receiving this free box though and I discovered some new brands that I never heard of before. I do wish they would have included the "full-size" products as advertised though instead of individual snack-size portions!
