Birchbox - November 2013

Birchbox is a makeup and beauty subscription box that typically sends 5 samples each month. Four of those samples usually revolve around a central theme, while one is a "beauty extra". This month's theme was "More Good".

This month also included a mini mag advertising their holiday shop!

The Box: Birchbox

The Cost: $10 a month

The Products: Beauty and lifestyle samples selected by the Birchbox team.

Reward Points: Birchbox has a wonderful rewards program where you get 1 point for every $1 spent in their store (even if you use your points toward a purchase!) and you get 10 points for every product you review from your monthly boxes. For every 100 points you receive, you get $10 in credit on their site. Birchbox also offers extra incentives to earn more points, by making purchases from products that were featured in the boxes that month, etc. Even if you only do the reviews, the points quickly add up!

As any Thanksgiving feast can attest, this is not the time for holding back. Rather, this month - and the entire holiday season - is about abundance in all forms. More thanks, more giving, more thoughtfulness, more samples, and of course more pumpkin pie and stuffing. All month, we'll be bringing you ideas for how you can bring more good to your life, from a roundup of our favorite charitable beauty brands to easy ways to give back. In addition, we're donating a portion of the proceeds from the Birchbox Shop to No Kid Hungry, a nationwide organization that works to end childhood hunger. There's plenty more good where that came from - we can't wait to celebrate with you all month!

Color Club Nail Polish in Baldwin Blues .25 fl oz - $4 (full size $8)

What: On-trend pro-quality lacquer that will take you easily-and gorgeously-from day to night.

I don't need anymore nail polish, but I've never tried this brand before and I love the shade!

DDF Amplifying Elixir .5fl oz - $20.59 (full size $70)

What: This translucent formula transforms skin, boosting its natural moisture barrier up to 50%
How: Morning and night, smooth over clean skin on the face and neck before applying moisturizer.

I liked this product, but I'm not sure how much of a difference it made on my skin. Then again, we had an extremely long and dry winter this year!

Joie Folle de Joie Eau de Parfum .6 fl oz - $17.29 (full size $98)

What: A Birchbox customer fave, this fresh scent blends mandarin, rose and sandalwood.

I'm not a fan of perfume samples and this particular scent was very appealing to me either. I ended up traded it though, so I'm okay with it!

Mox Botanicals Bath Milk (1 pack) - $6 (full size $12 for 2)

What: The indulgent blend infuses your bath with botanical goodness and nutrient-rich sea salt.

I love taking a bath every once in a while and this made me skin soft!

theBalm cosmetics Stainiac in Beauty Queen .04 fl oz - $2.27 (full size $17)

What: Bestselling stain that gives cheeks and lips a sheer, rosy tint.

During the holiday season, I love to wear red lips and cheeks, so this was perfect for a little rosy glow!

Lifestyle Extra: 3 Mighty Leaf Tea Pouches  - $1.99 (full size $9.95 for 15 pouches)

What: Handpicked blend of organic tea leaves, dried fruits, and spices in a biodegradable pouch.

I like tea and as I mentioned before, this past winter was a long and grueling one. We broke our record for the highest amount of snowfall and below zero weather here, which is saying something seeing how we live in Wisconsin! Needless to say I drank a lot of hot beverages! I loved the fancy tea bags on these as well!

Overall this box had an approximate value of $52.14. Even though I didn't love everything this month, I was still able to benefit by swapping. Either way, Birchbox is a great value for only $10/month especially considering you get points for reviews!
