Birchbox - February 2014

Birchbox is a makeup and beauty subscription box that typically sends 5 samples each month. Four of those samples usually revolve around a central theme, while one is a "beauty extra". This month's theme was "Step and Repeat".

The Box: Birchbox

The Cost: $10 a month

The Products: Beauty and lifestyle samples selected by the Birchbox team.

Reward Points: Birchbox has a wonderful rewards program where you get 1 point for every $1 spent in their store (even if you use your points toward a purchase!) and you get 10 points for every product you review from your monthly boxes. For every 100 points you receive, you get $10 in credit on their site. Birchbox also offers extra incentives to earn more points, by making purchases from products that were featured in the boxes that month, etc. Even if you only do the reviews, the points quickly add up!

Step. Pose. Repeat. It's award season, and we're prepping by watching all the Best Picture nominees and dusting off our satorial scorecards. (After all, the red-carpet posing is a show in itself.) This year, we've got some serious experts in our corner - the editors at US Weekly, who have celebrity makeup artists on speed-dial and know the secret behind every red-carpet look. All month we'll be sharing star beauty Intel with you, starting with US Weekly editor Gwen Flamberg's tips on posing for flattering photos. We've also got guides to getting an airbrushed finish (sans airbrush) and picking the right makeup for your eye shape. Ready your ballots! - The Birchbox Team

Whish Three Whishes Body Butter 22 ml - $3.52

What: Luscious, antioxidant-rich formula that firms, softens, and soothes.

I wasn't a huge fan of the scent. It smelled sugary to me, but I used it up.

Paula's Choice RESIST Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum .17 fl oz - $5.10

What: Nongreasy, water-based anti-aging serum that balances skin and tightens pores.
How: Morning and night, smooth a few drops onto clean, dry face. Safe for use under the eyes.

I really liked this product. It made my skin so soft and smooth!

SARAHPOTEMPA the Half-Up - $9

What: Use this nifty tool to create a tidy half up style, small top knot, or low bun.
How: Slip sectioned hair through hole. Pinch and roll up. Bend sides in and move hair to cover.

I haven't quite figure out how this works yet. I have thick, layered hair and can't seem to get it all in!

W3LL PEOPLE Universalist Multi-Use Color Stick - $?

What: The high performance, all-natural formula adds a touch of color to eyes, cheeks, and lips.

I like the color of this and that it's made with natural ingredients, but I wish it came in different packaging. There were no measurements for me to determine value though.

Beauty Extra: Harvey & Sons Fine Teas Wrapped Sachets in Paris and White Vanilla Grapefruit -$0.96

More tea! I enjoyed both of these and loved the silky sachets!

Overall this box had a value of $18.58, not including the points you get for reviews. This wasn't one of my favorite months, but I didn't hate it either. I loved the antioxidant serum!
