Whether you're lighting up the fireplace or setting the atmosphere with candles, the best way to beat the winter blues is to curl up with a good book. Put on your comfiest duds (includeing those cheery socks), sit back, and get transported with one of these reads: Bel Canto by Ann Patchett, Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. Four Steps to a Perfect At-Home Spa Day - There is nothing like a wicked storm to give you an excuse to pamper yourself at home.
1) Start Fresh - Prep skin with a gentle cleanser, ideally one with soothing ingredients like rosewater and cornflower.
2) Heat Things Up - Fill your bathtub with medium to hot water and add aromatic bath salts. Sink in and let the steam relax you.
3) Save Face - Apply a hydrating mask and sit for 10-20 minutes (either in the tub or lounging in front of the TV). Rinse face with warm water, and follow with your favorite serum or moisturizer.
4) Don't Forget - Take the time to exfoliate hands and lips (a simple solution of olive oil and sugar works wonders). Follow with creams and balms with rich ingredients like shea butter and cocoa butter.
(MALIN+GOETZ) Votive in Cannabis or Dark Rum - $13.58
This petite candle is made from all-natural waxes and dispenses a rich, warm scent for up to 25 hours.
Oh boy. This box reeked of this candle before I even opened it. I wasn't a fan of the smell and it also gave me a headache, so I swapped this. Birchbox also has great customer service and sent me the candle in dark rum in exchange. I will say though that I didn't think it smelled like cannabis. It just smelled strong, like men's cologne strong.
Askinosie Chocolate Single Origin Cocoa Powder - $3.23
Sourced from the Philippines, this fair-trade cocoa powder is ideal for baking and drinking. For the perfect hot cocoa, mix 2 tbsp powder, 2 tbsp sugar, and 1 1/4 cup hot milk.
Okay, I had great expectations for this, but I didn't think it tasted that great! Not sure what it is.
Three Tarts Gourmet Marshmallows - $2.29
Far from the store-bought variety, these handcrafted cinnamon squares are the perfect drink-toppers.
These were good, but not amazing. I think I was also expecting these to be better than they were!
Chantecaille Flower Infused Cleansing Milk - $5.08
This natural formula gently cleanses, hydrates and brightens with blue cornflower.
I liked this, but not for the price point! I'm glad I got to test it out though! Definitely felt like a spa day.
Chantecaille Jasmine & Lily Healing Mask - $7.99
Give dry, wind-burned skin a dose of pure calm with this rosewater mask, which doubles as a night cream.
Happy Socks Combed Cotton Crew Socks - $12
Warm your tootsies and upgrade your winter wardrobe with these punch Swedish socks.
I wish I would have gotten the purple polka dotted socks advertised on Birchbox (purple is my favorite color), but I'm glad I got these over some of the other options.
Jonathon Adler Fireplace Matches - $10
With striking (get it?) patterned packaging, these extra long matches are worthy of your mantel.
My parents have a working fireplace which they use regularly to heat their house in the cold Wisconsin winter months, so I gifted this to them for Christmas.
L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream - $1.86
The weather may be frosty, but your hands will stay soft with this restorative shea butter balm. They also included a coupon for a free personalized mini-facial and 10% off when you spend $25 or more at your nearest L'Occitane boutique.
I've used this brand of hand cream before. It's not my favorite (I don't care for the scent), but it'll definitely get used!
Mox Botanicals Matcha & Clementine Body Soak - $4.47
Drop these fast-dissolving salts into hot water for a relaxing, aromatic soak.
I really enjoyed taking a bath with this. It felt very relaxing!
S.W. Basics Organic Lip Balm - $3.75
Organic moisturizers and essential oils absorb instantly for soft, non-sticky lips.
I wasn't a huge fan of this, but I used it all up this winter since it was such a long and dry winter! I think I'll always prefer my Burt's Bees though.
Scrabble Birchbox Edition Mini Game Set - $36
Prove your mastery of the English language at home (and on the road) with this exclusive set.
This is cute, but I'm not sure how practical it is since it's so much smaller in person. The $36 price tag also seems inflated!
Overall this box had a value of $100.25 and was the perfect for the many snow days we had this year!
