Birchbox - March 2014

Birchbox is a makeup and beauty subscription box that typically sends 5 samples each month. Four of those samples usually revolve around a central theme, while one is a "beauty extra". This month's theme was "Spring Forward".

The Box: Birchbox

The Cost: $10 a month

The Products: Beauty and lifestyle samples selected by the Birchbox team.

Reward Points: Birchbox has a wonderful rewards program where you get 1 point for every $1 spent in their store (even if you use your points toward a purchase!) and you get 10 points for every product you review from your monthly boxes. For every 100 points you receive, you get $10 in credit on their site. Birchbox also offers extra incentives to earn more points, by making purchases from products that were featured in the boxes that month, etc. Even if you only do the reviews, the points quickly add up!

The season is changing, and we've got an extra hour of glorious daylight (woo hoo!) and an extra hour less of shut-eye (blergh) on our hands. Whether you're a glass half-empty or half-full kind of gal, what better time to focus on maximizing your daily routine? This month we're talking about smart DIYs, clever beauty shortcuts, and even ways to improve your Birchbox experience. (Hint: It involves getting products for free!) We'll show you how to get more out of everything, from helping your products last longer to time-saving hair tricks. Prepare yourself - it's going to be a great spring!

Coola Tinted Matte SPF 30 for Face .17 oz - $3.60

What: Organic tinted moisturizer with lasting sun protection that evens tone and masks flaws.

I've tried Coola products before and even purchased their moisturizer, but I wasn't a huge fan of this product. It goes on super soft and smooth, but the coloring is yellow out of the tube and once on it completely disappears. There's no coverage whatsoever for me, so I think I'll stick to their moisturizer!

Keims Cleanshine Energizing Shampoo 50 ml - $1.90

What: This invigorating cleanser fortifies and nourishes strands for a silky-smooth finish.

I liked this shampoo, but my only issue was that it didn't lather enough, so I felt like I had to use more to cover my long hair.

Michael Todd Tropical Fruit Enzyme Exfoliant Scrub 1.3 oz - $6.88

What: Mild exfoliator that gently lifts away impurities using organic fruit enzymes.

I already have a few product from Michael Todd, so I was happy to receive this. It smells amazing.

thebalm How 'Bout Them Apples? Cheek & Lip Cream - $5.33

What: From the just-launched palette, a dual-purpose, creamy stain with just a hint of shimmer.

I don't usually wear a lot of reds, except around the holidays, but this is a soft buildable color for me!

Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream 1 oz - $1.60

BB cream isn't just for your face. Meet the new Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream, an all-in-one formula packed with natural shea butter, skin tone evening technology, and a proprietary Firm Perfecting Complex. It goes on sheer, absorbs quickly, and delivers visible benefits in just five days. Think: luminous firm skin with fewer imperfections and overall hydration. Watch out, your complexion might get jealous. ($2 off coupon)

I was excited to try this out, but I didn't think it did anything for me? The coverage was basically non-existent in my opinion. The sample size also wasn't very large, so it's possible I may need to purchase a full-size to really know if it works. One thing I don't like about Jergens though is their scent, so I may pass on this one.

Overall this box had a value of  $19.31, not including the points for reviews. Another good month from Birchbox.
